Threadline for Jira: setup
- In Google Chat (web), open the space ▸ space name ▸ Apps & integrations ▸ Webhooks ▸ Add webhook. Name it “Jira”, then copy the URL.
- In Jira, go to Settings ▸ Apps ▸ Google Chat notifications and click Add route.
- Name the route, pick projects and events, and paste the webhook URL.
- Click Send test message. You should see it in the space within seconds.
- Save. Create or comment on an issue to see a threaded card.
Troubleshooting
- Can't add webhooks in Google Chat? Free Gmail accounts can't. On Google Workspace, an admin must allow incoming webhooks (Admin console ▸ Apps ▸ Google Workspace ▸ Google Chat).
- Nothing posted? Open the Delivery log tab. It explains each filtered, failed or retried message.
- “Subscription needed”? A Jira admin can start a trial or subscribe in Settings ▸ Apps ▸ Manage apps.
- Webhook leaked or rotated? Delete the webhook in Google Chat, create a new one, and edit the route.
Uninstalling
Uninstall from Jira Settings ▸ Apps ▸ Manage apps. Atlassian removes the app's storage, including routes, encrypted webhook URLs and logs.
